Cardi B and Offset's Marriage, Baby and Breakup: A Guide to Their Tumultuous Relationship
It all began in February 2017 when Cardi B (née Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar) and Offset (né Kiari Kendrell Cephus) went on their very first date during Super Bowl LI. “I told my publicist to tell him, because I was very shy, ‘Listen, if we gonna go on a public date together, you cannot make me look like a dumbass after this,’” Cardi B told GQ. “And he was like, ‘No, I really like her. I’m really feeling her.’ We was talking, we was making out. We didn’t f—.” Things escalated after the annual event, of course, considering the couple’s respective power status. “After the Super Bowl, it got really serious because I feel, like, all eyes on us,” she said in the same interview.
It didn’t take long before the Migos member collaborated with his new girlfriend on “Lick,” a single off the female rapper’s mixtape, Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 2, in May 2017. They performed alongside each other and teased fans with an almost-kiss at the end of the song’s music video. That same month, the hot-and-heavy couple was also spotted enjoying themselves at a Met Gala afterparty.
And just like that, it was official: In October 2017, the Migos rapper got down on one knee and popped the question (with a larger-than-life sparkler in hand!) to his love in the middle of a Power 99’s Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia — and she said yes! “I can’t wait to spend FOREVAAAA with you,” Cardi B wrote on Instagram following the surprise proposal. “Lets make a lot shmoney and love together.”
Two months after his public proposal, Offset was caught in the center of a cheating scandal after videos surfaced showing the rapper in bed with multiple women. While he refused to address the allegations in his Rolling Stone interview, Offset did remind the reporter that “It’s my real life.” He continued: “It ain’t no gig. It ain’t no f–ing game, you know what I’m saying?”
Cardi B, on the other hand, took a much more direct approach by tweeting her thoughts on the matter. “No, it’s not right for a [n—-] to cheat…But what you want me to do?” she wrote. “Go f— me another n—-? Start all over again and get cheated on again? This s— happens to everyone and I be too, you too…People handle they relationship different soo.”
Presumed tension seemed nonexistent in January 2017 when Offset declared his adoration for the Invasion of Privacy rapper in the form of a neck tattoo that spelled out her name. And if this video were any indication, she was pretty damn pleased/flattered/excited with the final product.
The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker opened up about her fiancé’s alleged infidelity in a February 2018 interview with Cosmopolitan, while simultaneously giving us a lesson in true self-confidence. “I know I look good, I know I’m rich, I know I’m talented. I know I could get any man I want — any basketball player, football player,” she began. “But I want to work out my s— with my man, and I don’t got to explain why.”
The New York native also criticized the ongoing media scrutiny on her personal life. “I’m not your property. This is my life … I’m going to take my time, and I’m going to decide on my decision,” she told the magazine. “It’s not right, what he f-—ing did — but people don’t know what I did, ’cause I ain’t no angel.”
After weeks of pregnancy speculation and clap-backs from the star — who famously responded to an inquiring fan by saying, “No bitch I’m just getting fat. Let me fat in peace.” — Cardi B took to the Saturday Night Live stage for a performance that saw the star proudly displaying her growing baby bump in a form-fitting white dress. How’s that for the ultimate pregnancy reveal?
In a soon-to-be iconic photo, Rolling Stone’s June 2018 cover featured Offset kissing his ultra-glam fiancé’s bare baby bump. Although this is Cardi B’s first pregnancy (she is expecting a baby girl!), the pair’s first child together will be the fourth for Offset, who is father to three children from previous relationships. “People want to make fun of me, saying I’m the fourth baby mom, [but] I know I’m not having a baby with a s–ty ass man,” the “I Like It” star told Rolling Stone.
Whether he meant to subtly make the announcement or if it really was just a slip, Offset led social media into complete hysteria after he referred to Cardi B as his “wife” at the BET Awards in June 2018. Hours later, TMZ obtained the couple’s marriage certificate, which states the couple tied the knot in Atlanta months prior, on Sept. 20.
Despite initial hesitance to share details on the married pair’s special day, Cardi B confirmed the news on Twitter: “One morning in September we woke up and decided to get married. … I said I do, with no dress no make up and no ring! … at least ya can stop saying i had a baby out of wedlock.”
Cardi B and Offset brought the club home for their Atlanta baby shower, held in late June.
The spouses celebrated their baby girl on the way at an extravagant shower with a theme of Bardi Shower: A Bronx Fairytale.
Friends and family danced the night away amid tons of pink and white flowers, pink balloons and more.
The chic soirée also featured a full band, a children’s book library for the couple’s bundle of joy and a “Bardi Baby Bodega,” where guests could grab a variety of refreshments and other products.
Cardi B made her mommy move!
The rapper and husband Offset welcomed their first child together, daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, on Tuesday, July 10, Cardi B announced on Instag
In September, Cardi shared a throwback photo from their low-key wedding to celebrate their one-year as husband and wife.
In October, Offset faked a medical emergency so his wife would come back home to Atlanta immediately. Turns out, he had been plotting to surprise Cardi with a new Lamborghini.
Cardi proudly showed off Offset’s custom Louis Vuitton jewelry cases hand painted with a portrait of his wife wearing a bra and briefs, along with an inscription of each of his four children’s names — sons Jordan and Kody and daughters Kalea and Kulture.
On Dec. 5, Cardi announced on Instagram that she and Offset split. “We got a lot of love for each other but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time,” she said.
