One thing you should never do when booking a hotel online
With the weather still being pretty miserable, you might already be planning your next summer getaway.
However if you’re booking online, you’ll want to make sure you’re being extra careful when reading through holiday deals – especially when it comes to hotel fees.
According to a travel expert it’s incredibly easy to get caught out by hidden prices and there’s one thing you really shouldn’t be doing.
And that’s rushing into booking something without shopping around first to make sure you’ve got the right deal for you.
George Charles from Money Saving Heroes revealed all to The Express.
He said: "When staying in a hotel, it is a great idea to look for the best deals, but what may seem to be an amazing deal originally could actually end up ripping you off after you’re hit by charges that weren’t made clear from the beginning.
"Hotel booking sites can be convenient and simple but always shop around.
"If in doubt, look up reviews that other customers have said about booking websites and be vigilant."
He went on to explain how you shouldn’t feel pressured by exclamations such as ‘hurry, only one room left at this price’.
"These demanding messages are designed to make you feel rushed into making irrational and panicked booking decisions and could lead you to losing out on better deals on other websites," he said.
George added: "Always shop around, always do your research and always look for the best deals when looking to book a hotel room."
This comes as travel sites such as Expedia, Booking.com, Agoda, Hotels.com, ebookers and trivago have been told to clean up the way they operate.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) have been investigating the websites for pressure selling making misleading discount claims and hiding charges.
The companies have since signed undertakings to stop giving false impressions of a room’s popularity, and will provide details of the full cost of a room upfront.
