Ex-con indicted in assassination of reputed mob associate
The ex-con accused of scheming to execute a reputed mobster as he waited for a cup of drive-through coffee has been indicted on murder charges.
A federal grand jury slapped Bushawn “Shelz” Shelton with one count of murder for hire conspiracy and other charges related to the death of reputed Bonnano crime family associate Sylvester Zottola, 71.
Zottola was killed in his car as he waited for a cup of McDonald’s coffee last month in the Bronx.
Per the indictment, an unidentified cooperating witness testified that Shelton paid him to kill Zottola and a second target, who sources have identified as Zottola’s son, Salvatore Zottola, 41. While the younger Zottola was shot and wounded outside his Locust Point home in July, he survived.
It’s not clear when Shelton, a reputed member of the Bloods street gang, will return to court to face arraignment on the upgraded charges.
Authorities suspect the hit was ordered by Albanian mobsters looking to commandeer a “Joker Poker” video game racket run by Zottola, sources previously told The Post.
