Female priest sacked after going on sex toy shopping spree
Reverend Dr Amy Butler allegedly brought ministers and worshippers along on the trip in Minneapolis, the US – even giving one of them a vibrator.
She snapped up a Beaded Rabbit for one minister – a single mum-of-two celebrating her 40th birthday – and other X-rated items at the Smitten Kitten in May.
Butler, 49, also reportedly offered to buy a sex toy for another minister – a gay man in a relationship – but he refused.
At the register Butler asked “Is this a church business expense?” before pulling out the “church credit card”, the New York Post reports.
“The Council thanks Pastor Amy for her leadership and asks all congregants to pray for her continued ministry”
Riverside Church statement
Her successor Senior Minister Michael Livingston broke the news of her departure during his sermon at a Sunday worship service on July 7.
A joint statement from Butler and Church Council chairwoman Marilyn Mitchell said: “Rev. Dr. Amy Butler and the Riverside Church Council are announcing that after five years of leadership, Pastor Amy will not be renewing her contract as Senior Minister.
“The Council thanks Pastor Amy for her leadership and asks all congregants to pray for her continued ministry as a leader in the progressive Christian world.”
