Multiple people shot in ‘drive-by shooting’ near US football stadium
Multiple people have been shot in an alleged drive-by shooting near a football stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
Six adults have been shot – with three in a critical condition – and the shooter is still reportedly on the run.
Five of the victims were male and the sixth was female, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a live media briefing.
Those shot were between the ages of 20s and 70s, police said. They were all taken to hospital but there is no update on their condition at this time.
A witness said a man was shot in the head while a woman was struck in the hip, alboenews reports.
Others are also thought to have been injured.
Police were called to reports of the incident near the Jacksonville Jaguars football stadium today.
Witnesses said the shooting happened at a laundrette near the stadium, 12up reports.
Jacksonville’s Sheriff’s Office earlier tweeted: "JSO is working multiple people shot at APR and Pippin."
They added: "At this time, six adults shot with three in critical condition. No suspect(s) in custody.
"The area around the shooting on APR has been closed and the investigation active.
"This incident is outside the stadium footprint and has not impacted the Jag game at this time.
"As it relates to traffic, we are working on post game traffic patterns affected."
Officers told the media briefing they are investigating reports the shooter was on the passenger side of the vehicle, but this is not confirmed.
They said they are also looking into the unconfirmed possibility the incident may be gang related.
Police are still going through CCTV to try and establish the circumstances.
Fire and rescue teams are on the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office said: "At this time we believe the suspect was in a vehicle described as a grey/silver four door vehicle.
