Courtney Stodden tearfully confessed that she tried to take her own life last year.

The former CelebrityBig Brother star, 25, rose to fame when she married The Green Mile star Doug Hutchison when he was 50 and she was just 16.

Their divorce was made official yesterday, and the star chose to confess her suicide attempt.

The model and singer bravely opened up about how she got to such a low point that she felt she had no choice but to kill herself.

But Courtney also details how happy she is that it didn't work.

In a brave video confession she says: "So today marks the official date that I am divorced from actor Doug Hutchison.

"I'm feeling strong today, I thought when this day would come I didn't know how I would feel but I'm feeling super strong, and that's the main reason and why I'm deciding to make this video."

She added: "It's no secret that I've struggled with depression, I have opened up multiple times about my struggle with depression."

The former Celebs Go Dating star says she's currently working on a book that will detail her childhood, her marriage and where she is today.

She continues: "But today I also wanted to address something that I've been holding in, out of fear, out of concern that I'm just going to be looked at completely differently."

Fighting back tears, she goes on: "…that I just, I can't believe it happened, but I attempted to commit suicide about a year ago.

"It was just a point where I, I didn't see a way out of all of the pain and grief and craziness and insanity of my life.

"You know, not everything is released in the media, things happen behind closed doors, and I just feel like it all got too much for me and I decided that, in a really drunken state, this was the best option.

"And by the grace of God, it didn't work. It failed. My attempt failed, and all I remember during that time, I don't want to get into it too much, but during those few moments I was just thinking, 'This is the best option, I don't know what else to do'.

"I was so convinced."

Courtney admits she still can't believe she attempted to take her own life.

She says she felt "hopeless" in that time, and that she was "responsible" for too many people and wanted to give up.

Courtney goes on to talk about her marriage to Doug, saying she doesn't believe he had any ill intentions, but that their relationship grew to be "toxic and chaotic".

Going on to detail the reason she wanted to make this video confession, she tells her fans: "Life is worth living. No matter what you've done in your past, no matter what other people have done to you, no matter what other people won't admit to, no matter what they believe, what you believe, you are important, your feelings are important, especially women, and men, but I'm just…

"I'm just grateful. I'm really truly, truly, truly grateful to be alive."

She adds: "I'm not afraid anymore."
