Daisy Lowe reveals that clumps of her hair fell out and she lost the ability to speak before being forced into rehab following her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing

Daisy Lowe has revealed that clumps of her hair fell out and she even lost the ability to speak before being forced into rehab following her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing.

The model, 31, spoke candidly about experiencing a secret breakdown, which occurred following the death of her grandfather Eddie Davis as well as a hectic work schedule.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: ‘I was frightening myself. I was having heart palpitations and I was quite shaky and talking very quickly. I got to Christmas and I just broke…

‘The strangest thing happened. I think that I was so burned out that I lost the ability to speak. All I could really say was, “I’m sad” or “I’m scared” or “I feel really anxious”.

‘I’d been to the doctors and I’d been signed off work with clinical depression.

‘I had been tried on a few different antidepressants and all of them had very adverse effects. I didn’t sleep for four months. The insomnia was so unbearable. I was shaking, I lost my appetite and my hair started falling out. It was horrific.’

Daisy said that Strictly Come Dancing had been the greatest experience of her career but that she had struggled after the news of her grandfather’s death reached her on the first day in the BBC studio.

Encouraged by her grandmother to carry on with the competition in his memory, Daisy made it through to week eight alongside dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec.

The show ended in October 2016 before the nationwide tour started.

Job offers came flooding in as a result and Daisy tried to capitalise on her time in the spotlight by filling her days with as many as eight gigs per day but she quickly realised it was unsustainable.

Daisy ended up experiencing an emotional breakdown which led to her refusing to leave her home for nearly seven months.

Her mother, fashion designer Pearl Lowe, 50, eventually intervened and put her in touch with psychotherapist John McKeown.

John runs luxury rehabilitation centre Ibiza Calm, which focuses on therapy, meditation, yoga and educational lectures.

Daisy quickly felt rejuvenated at the clinic and returned home – but just two months later her anxiety had got the better of her and forced her to head back.

She is now thriving at home once again and has since begun actively working on keeping a balance to avoid another relapse.

It comes following reports that Daisy has split from her boyfriend Jack Peñate, after she made the decision to end their six-month relationship because she ‘didn’t see a future’ with the singer, 35.

A source told The Sun: ‘It was Daisy’s choice to end the relationship as she just didn’t see a future with Jack.

‘In the end she saw him as more of a mate than a boyfriend. She broke the news last month and he was a bit gutted, but understood where she was coming from.

‘Daisy travelled from London to Somerset to isolate with her family rather than being on her own in the capital, she’s been keeping herself busy focusing on work projects and concentrating on self-care.’

She found romance with Jack after splitting from Cameron McMeikan, 24. The model even supported Jack on his new album in November.

Daisy and Cameron dated for almost a year before reportedly ending their romance over their six-year age gap. Jack’s biggest hit to date is his 2007 song Torn on the Platform, and he has two top 20 albums.

Daisy, whose dating history includes The Crown’s Matt Smith, Hurts singer Theo Hutchcraft and Thomas Cohen, was also romantically linked to artist John Leigh.
