Jack Fincham was catapulted into the crazy world of fame when he won Love Island 2018 with his then girlfriend, Dani Dyer. But two years after walking away with his share of the £50,000 prize money, when we sit down with the former pen salesman, we learn that his life has taken some surprising turns.

“I’m sorry. I’m just getting upset,” the 28-year-old says as he tears up. “I’m just really down at the moment.”

The reality star is talking to us days after a serious car crash. He reveals that the rumours about his split with his girlfriend of two months, Connie O’Hara, are untrue, and that in fact, she was in the passenger seat and was taken to hospital after the collision, which led to his £35,000 Mercedes being written off.

To add to Jack’s troubles, his ex, Casey Ranger, has recently accused him of only seeing his baby daughter Blossom three times in eight months.

“Fatherhood has been hard,” admits Jack. “But I’m Blossom’s dad and I’ll always be here to protect her.”

Here, the boxer from Essex opens up about the car crash, how he feels about his ex Dani becoming a mum, and struggling with the loss of his beloved nan…

Hi Jack! How are you feeling following the car accident?

I was in so much shock I was shaking. The other driver was going too fast as I was turning into a restaurant and he wasn’t looking. He was screaming “C**t” at me even though he was in the wrong. I was breathalysed and Connie had to go to hospital with a sprain.

So the rumours about you and Connie breaking up aren’t true?

We didn’t split up. We did take some pictures down of each other on our social media, but that was because we want to keep things more private. I’ve lived a life with a relationship on social media and it just doesn’t work because there’s no privacy. We’re trying to take things slow.

How’s that going for you two?

Really well! I don’t want to rush into anything. I’m focusing on bettering myself.

Is Connie very supportive of you?

Really supportive, and that’s what I need around me. Because I suffer with ADHD I haven’t got any concentration and I need to be occupied. I need people who will give me that push I need. There are so many nasty people out there, trolls and the like, and there have been a few things recently that have upset me.

What’s been upsetting you?

I just feel really down at the moment.

Who’s there for you on your down days?

Connie and my mum. My mum is my rock and since losing my nan… Sorry, I’m just getting really upset [cries]. We lost her in March. I just wish my nan was still here to help me out with everything, she’d always give me the best advice. I’m trying to help my mum and keep everyone happy, which is hard. You do one good thing to help someone out, then all of a sudden someone shoots you down for something and you’re a bad person again. It’s just not a nice world to be in at times.

No doubt your nan would be so proud of everything you’ve been doing recently!

Yeah, I’ve been training [for boxing] twice a day!

Does training help with your ADHD?

Yeah, and it helps so much with my anxiety which I’ve suffered from since I was about 18. I also take sertraline [an antidepressant].

How have you found fatherhood?

I’ve found it hard. I can’t talk about it for legal reasons. I’m doing everything I can, it’s about whether people are going to start cooperating.

How is Blossom?

She’s a beautiful girl and I hope she gets showered in love as much as possible and I can’t wait until I can do the same.

What do you wish for Blossom in the future?

I wish for her to be happy, healthy and do whatever she wants in life. She needs to remember that life is temporary. All of a sudden I’m 28, and I’m thinking, ‘God, what am I doing with my life.’ Now I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing with myself. It’s hard.

Do you think you will be a protective dad as she grows up?

Yes, I’m her dad and I’ll always make sure I’m there to protect her.

How do you feel now your ex Dani is about to become a mum?

I think it’s fantastic – she’ll be a brilliant mum. I mean that from the heart and I wish her all the best.

Can you reveal what’s going on with you and Laura Anderson?

We’re just close friends! I talk to her every day and she’s my mate. She lives in Glasgow – how would I be romancing her when I’m training every day in Essex? Laura is a lovely girl. She’d ring me up for relationship advice and I’d give it to her, and vice versa. That’s how I want it to stay.

What’s the future for you?

I’ve moved back home with my mum because I’m saving to buy a place. I’m trying to be a grown-up, even if I’ve taken up two of her rooms with all my clothes!

You’ve been filming for ITV’s new showDon’t Rock The Boat. How have you found that?

It’s been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done and the most I’ve been pushed mentally. I made such a strong friendship with Shaun Wallace, we just got each other and had
a real bromance going on. I also really look up to Jodie Kidd now, she was so motherly towards me. And Tom Watson – he’s an absolute hero and gave me so much advice. And Kimberly Wyatt should be an Olympian!

Don’t Rock The Boat is on weekdays from Monday 2 November, 9pm, ITV
