Kobe Bryant’s death has inspired reactions from numerous celebrities. T.I. and Magic Johnson have both had somewhat surprising reactions to Bryant’s untimely passing. Here’s what they had to say.
T.I. apologizes to his daughters
According to Fox News, T.I. sparked controversy when, in November 2019, he revealed he would take his daughter to the doctor to “test” if she was a virgin. This “test” involved checking her hymen. His comments were widely condemned.
According to Fox News, Bryant’s death caused T.I. to apologize to his daughters for his unspecified “imperfections.” He wrote on Instagram “I love you girls more than my vocabulary will allow me to express. You have grown so much right before my very eyes & blossomed into strong, brilliantly opinionated, independent young women. I’m so proud of you both and I love you to no end, more than you’ll ever know.”
T.I. added “Please forgive me for any and all imperfections that cause misunderstandings between us…. Charge my mind, not my heart. You see Life may throw us curveballs & deal us some pretty bad hands at times. But rest assured, you’ll NEVER find yourself in a place too high or low for me to be there to catch you when you fall.”
Magic Johnson makes a humble admission
Magic Johnson had an emotional and humble response to Bryant’s death as well. Johnson, a player for the Los Angeles Lakers, deemed Bryant the greatest Laker ever. According to Yahoo! Entertainment, he said “My friend, a legend, husband, father, son, brother, Oscar winner and greatest Laker of all-time is gone. It’s hard to accept.”
He added “Kobe was a leader of our game, a mentor to both male and female players.” In a separate Tweet, he said “He gave his knowledge, time, and talent to tutor so many at the youth level, collegiate level, & NBA & WNBA players. Words can’t express the impact that he had on the game of basketball. I know basketball fans all over the world will miss him, especially the City of Los Angeles.
Magic Johnson honors Kobe Bryant
Johnson continued “Kobe and I shared so many special conversations about life and basketball. We had so much in common off the court. I used to love talking to him about Lakers basketball, being fathers and husbands and how much we loved Italy. I will miss those conversations and him so much.”
Johnson had further praise for Bryant during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “Kobe never made an excuse. Whether he was tired, hurt, he played through everything. The man gave us everything that he had.”
Johnson continued “Every night you came to Staples Center, you knew you were going to see some special and something great you have never seen in your life. That was Kobe Bryant.” In regard to all the mourning of Bryant, Johnson said “Kobe would want us all to carry on and be great in our lives.”
