Liam Hemsworth looked like the cat who got the cream as he enjoyed a fun beach day in Byron Bay with his girlfriend Gabriella Brooks, brother Chris and good pal Taika Waititi.

The Hemsworths brothers and Thor director Taika are long-term friends and were seen catching up, as they hit the beach to play some cricket and soak up the sun now temperatures are starting to heat up down under in Australia.

But, in between showing off his cricketing prowess and chilling out with his older brother, Liam, 30, only had eyes for his model girlfriend.

He and Gabriella, 22, were seen cuddling up together as he sipped on a beer.

Liam wrapped his arms around his gal and, at one point, the pair were cutely snuggled up together with a blanket covering them as they stole a moment alone.

The Hunger Games actor and Gabriella first went public with their relationship in January, earlier this year, following Liam’s split from ex-wife Miley Cyrus.

He and Miley, 27, called it quits in August 2019 following just eight months of marriage. They had tied the knot at Miley’s family home in Nashville in December 2018.

Announcing their decision to separate, Liam and Miley vowed to stay ‘dedicated parents to all of their animals they share’ and while it was reported Miley was keeping custody of their pets – including seven dogs, three cats and one pig – by Vanity Fair, it seems Liam has their pet pooch Dora.

Miley had helped Liam adopt Dora in 2015 from a rescue centre in LA and, well, the star and his pooch have been inseparable ever since.

Liam has been seen hailing Dora as his ‘best friend’ on Instagram and his canine pal was very much part of his beach day, as he headed out with all the Hemsworth clan.

Dora seemed to be having a ball as she joined in with the family sports, with Liam making a fuss over the other lady in his life – now she has finally arrived in Australia from the US to be with him.

He was dressed casually in a white t-shirt, shorts and baseball cap and hit the sand in bare feet as he showed off his skills when it comes to Australian Football.

Liam was joined by Avengers star Chris, 37, who appeared to be sporting an ankle brace on one foot, and film director Taika, 45, who was seen rocking a quirky beach outfit that included colourful shorts and a printed kaftan.

During lockdown, Liam, Chris and Taika had teamed up together to take part in a star-studded charity read-a-long of Roald Dahl classic James and the Giant Peach.

Taika is also working with Chris on the fourth film in the Thor franchise, titled Thor: Love and Thunder.

Chris will be back as the hammer-wielding superhero, while Natalie Portman finally returns as Thor’s love interest Jane Foster.

And while Chris has become known all over for playing the Marvel character, he almost lost out on the role to younger brother Liam, who had actually auditioned for Thor as well and made it down to the final four.

Liam doesn’t hold it against Chris for going on to bag the legendary role, as he admitted he ‘never really wanted’ to be Thor as he felt he was ‘too young’ to take on the character.

Speaking to GQ Australia last year, Liam revealed: ‘I never really wanted to do it. I always felt I was too you for it. I was screen testing when I was 18.

‘The other guys in it were all late 20s or early 30s. I didn’t feel Thor-ish.’

Liam, who has starred in the likes of Isn’t It Romantic, The Last Song and Arkansas, is only full of praise for his big bro too.

‘[Chris is] my hero. I look up to him,’ he added. ‘He’s honestly my last call – when I find myself in a position where I’m 50/50 about a script, I call Chris.

‘His opinion I trust more than anyone in my team.’
