Meghan Markle has claimed that the palace stopped her from doing an interview with Oprah Winfrey ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex made the sensational revelation in the recently released third trailer for her hotly anticipated interview with the American chat show host.

In the footage Meghan, 39, states that “I’m ready to talk”. The pregnant mother-of-one also explained that she previously wouldn’t have been able to give an interview without members of the Royal Family's team present.

Megan went on to describe the opportunity to speak on the CBS prime time show as “liberating”.

In the clip, released on Friday, Oprah says to her friend and neighbour: "I called you either February or March 2018 before the wedding asking, would you please give me an interview and you said sorry it’s not the right time.

"And finally, we get to sit down and have this conversation."

The former Suits actress then responds: "I remember that conversation very well. I wasn’t even allowed to have that conversation with you personally, right. There had to be people from the… sitting there."

Megan also revealed that officials were present when they were first speaking, adding: "yeah, even on that call."

The mother of one-year-old Archie then explained why now was the right time to do an interview.

She said: "Well, so many things. That we’re on the other side of a lot of life experience that’s happened.

"And also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn’t have said yes to you then. That wasn’t my choice to make.

"So, as an adult who lived a really independent life to then go into this construct that’s different than I think what people imagine it to be, it’s really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say yes."

Oprah Winfrey has said “no subject is off limits” in the interview. The show will be aired on CBS in the US on Sunday night, and on ITV on Monday for UK audiences.

The first part of the interview involves just Meghan, but she is joined later by her royal husband.
