Nick Knowles has paid tribute to DIY SOS star Darren Hudson, following the death of his adopted son Oliver.

The young boy was severely disabled and we first met Oliver and his family as they appeared on an episode of home improvement show DIY SOS on Thursday evening, on which TV star Nick Knowles is a presenter.

Dad Darren was left heartbroken after his childhood sweetheart died suddenly and he was forced to share his late son Oliver’s bedroom downstairs.

As a result, Nick, 57, and team swooped in on DIY SOS to transform the family home, which is also the home to Darren’s other children, Harvey and step-son Mike.

Paying tribute to Ollie, Nick took to Twitter to write: “We @DIYSOS send condolences to Darren & family on the sad passing of wonderful Ollie who is missed & was so loved,” followed by a love heart emoji.

In the image shared by Nick, Darren sits next to Ollie, who is in a wheelchair, and gazes lovingly at him while in the garden.

Darren was over the moon with the transformation and support he’d received from his community, and said on the programme: “Amazing. What you have done for us guys, it’s our next chapter. It’s the next step forward which is massive for us.

"Words don’t even seem enough. I have been in there and I didn’t even recognise my house. In fact it’s not a house, you have brought the home back for us.

"I can actually get upstairs and it might seem nothing to you guys but to me it’s everything. You have given me the full house back where I just had the downstairs for so long.

"It’s something we needed so bad and it couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s amazing. Thank you so much."

The programme, which aired on 17 September, was followed by the heartbreaking news that Oliver had passed away.

As a result, viewers were left heartbroken with one writing: “I’ve never felt more heartbreak for a family than I have just watching that episode then reading that tweet. God bless."

A second penned: “That was possibly one of the best if not the best builds I’ve seen. So deserved, such a lovely family. Really touching. RIP Ollie."
