Ollie Ollerton, 49, exclusively told Express.co.uk that he has really enjoyed working on his new show SAS Australia as a DS (directing staff) member, as he was “really listened to” by the production team. Previously the ex-special forces member had starred in SAS: Who Dares Wins UK,  where he felt as though his input was sometimes ignored.

Didn’t really happen on the UK one

Ollie shared of his time Down Under: “I loved the production team, they really listened to us.

“They did things we suggested, which is something that didn’t really happen on the UK one.”

Ollie was dropped from SAS: Who Dares Wins after appearing on the show for seven seasons, amid claims of a “diversity drive” at Channel 4.

Channel 4 responded at the time: “Ollie continues to be associated with the SAS: Who Dares Wins Brand as a DS for SAS: Who Dares Wins Australia.

“Ollie has made an exceptional contribution to SAS: Who Dares Wins and the expertise and experience he brought to the Directing Staff team has been much valued.

“We wish him great success with his future projects,” they added.

Of his experience working in the UK with Channel 4, he said: “I’m more than happy that I’m doing the one in Australia, but my time in the UK one was over really.

“I wasn’t content doing that show, my focus is my books, my focus is my business, and I was starting to fail to understand how that fit in.

“It did exactly what I wanted it to do, it created exposure and allowed me to be able to have a voice and write books and start my companies.

“Everything I do is there to help other people,” he added.

Ollie originally brought the UK programme to fruition alongside DS Ant Middleton, Jason “Foxy” Fox and Mark “Billy” Billingham.

The 49-year-old divulged that his fellow instructors had threatened to quit the show and leave with him. However, he convinced them to stay on the show.

Now Ollie has published his first-ever fiction novel Scar Tissue, a gripping military thriller centred around the main protagonist Alex Abbott, a disgraced special forces soldier.

The book is inspired by Ollie’s six years in the special forces, working within the Special Boat Service as a Special Forces Combat Frogman.

He explained: “The heartbeat of the book, everything about it, is me.

“It’s really about a guy who was working in a very stressful situation. Although he [Alex] was working in a very dangerous hazardous situation, the real war was going on inside of him.

“So it’s about him facing battle within himself, but then having to face that external threat and danger.

“I think everyone can relate to an element of that. We have all got stuff going on in our lives,” he added.

The star has also not ruled out a screen adaption of the book, and would love to have Sean Bean as the titular role.
