Prince William and Prince Harry have reunited to issue a joint statement almost six months after Harry made his last public UK engagement as a royal.

The 35 year old and his wife Meghan Markle, 39, stepped down as senior members of the Royal family earlier this year.

But Harry and his older brother William, 38, have now joined forced once again to announce a new statue of their mother, Princess Diana, which will be unveiled on what would have been her 60th birthday.

Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997 at the age of 36 when William and Harry were just 15 and 12 years old respectively.

The new statue was commissioned in 2017 to mark the 20th anniversary of her death, but the installation was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It will now be unveiled in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace, where Harry and Meghan announced their engagement, on 1 July 2021.

William and Harry said in their rare statement: "Our mother touched so many lives.

"We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy."

William and Harry reportedly didn't speak for two months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to step down as senior royals.

Omid Scobie, the author of Harry and Meghan's biography Finding Freedom, said that the brothers barely communicate now and that their relationship "will take time to heal".

The author made the claims in an interview with Kate Thornton for Royal Beat on royal-related TV subscription service, True Royalty TV, reports The Sun.

Omid suggests that the fall-out began around the time in January when the royal family met to discuss Harry and Meghan's wish to step down as senior members of the royal family.

Things reportedly spiralled between the brothers when the Sussexes released their plans to step down online and Omid claims their rift was cemented.

Commenting on their lack of communication, he said: "They hadn’t seen each other. That’s really going to take some time to heal.

"I think the distance between the brothers grew wider and wider."

On Harry and Meghan notifying the world of their plans to step down, he added: "I think really where it went wrong for Harry and Meghan and the Cambridges was that decision to go public with the road map to their new working model."
