Taylor Swift‘s “Cardigan,” from her new album Folklore, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart dated August 8.
With Folklore also topping the Billboard 200, Swift has become the first-ever artist to debut at No. 1 on both the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts in the same week.
Two other songs from Folklore, “The 1,” and “Exile,” both featuring Bon Iver, have also debuted in the Hot 100’s top 10, hitting No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
Folklore‘s debut at the top earned Swift her seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. It also achieved the biggest week of 2020.
According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, “Cardigan” logged 34 million U.S. streams and 71,000 downloads in the week ending July 30.
The track debuted atop both the Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales charts.
The song attracted 12.7 million in all-format radio airplay audience in the tracking week ending August 2.
“Cardigon” is the 41st song overall to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100, and Swift’s second to achieve the feat after “Shake It Off” bagged the top spot in its debut in early September 2014.
Swift is the seventh artist with multiple No. 1 Hot 100 entrances, joining Ariana Grande (four), Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Drake (three each), Travis Scott and Britney Spears (two each).
Meanwhile, “Cardigan” is the sixth song to debut atop the Hot 100 in 2020, extending the record for the most in a single year. Four songs each started at No. 1 in both 2018 and 1995.
