What better way to celebrate your birthday than with a series of cheeky selfies and a proclamation? For Ulrika Jonsson, she knows what’s up.
The presenter was charging straight into another year with an Instagram ode to herself, as she shared her hot take on her birthday.
Musing on ‘what I know so far’, the former Gladiators star revealed her life lessons, saying she was ‘a lioness’ and that she loves ‘with reckless abandon’.
Ulrika wrote on Monday morning: ‘This is 54. Happy Birthday, to me….
‘What I know so far: I’m a lioness of boundless proportions. I am fierce; I am loyal. Passion courses through my veins; fire scorches my heart and imagination canters like a wild horse through my buoyant, tangled mind.
‘I love with reckless abandon and ardour at times when caution and circumspection might be the order of the day. Lying down with lions has never perturbed me.
‘But the futility of attempting to change the shape of my heart has never been lost on me. I am who I am. I may be too much. But I am never not enough.
‘I’m instinctive and intuitive. An empath; a lover, a carer and nurturer. I am learning to put myself first but it turns out to be a vigorous lesson to learn. I am a woman of substance. I am a complicated soul.
‘I can be apprehensive and impatient. And I don’t like goat’s cheese. #leosarethebest.’
Ulrika’s friends and followers chimed in with their well wishes, with Saira Khan musing: ‘Happy Birthday beautiful, enjoy your day and I hope you get everything you desire ❤️’
Jake Quickenden added: ‘Happy bday matey.’
Writer Poorna Bell praised Ulrika’s post, writing: ‘Happy birthday you beautiful lioness! Your funny, clever and brilliant account always brightens a day. ‘I may be too much but I’m never not enough’. Love this.’
Ulrika is no stranger to telling it like it is and glowing in her body positivity, recently posing nude to raise awareness for men’s mental health.
Speaking about the viral moment – which saw her in only a pair of wellies as she posed with a wheelbarrow in her back garden – Ulrika said it was an important moment not just to raise awareness, but for her own self-esteem.
She wrote in her column for The Sun: ‘I cannot avoid seeing the excess skin, the cellulite on the back of my legs, the diminished muscle on my forearm, my ever-decreasing bum and my beloved varicose veins which I’ve had operated on no fewer than three times.
‘But as my best friend Laura physically held my hand when I pressed the “go” button on Instagram, I felt I had to accept and take ownership of this nearly 54-year-old body. Own it. It is what it is. It’s given life to four beautiful, ungrateful children.’
