DEAR DEIDRE: I’M my husband’s carer since he damaged his back in an accident at work. We have three children under ten, one of whom has autism, and I’m at the end of my strength.
My husband has to use a wheelchair much of the time and is very down about what he has lost.
I am 34 and my husband is 37. I work part-time but I feel I am doing too much, running the house, looking after the kids and looking after my husband as well as trying to hold on to my job.
I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing everything for everyone.
The doctor prescribed anti-depressants but I can’t afford the prescription and they don’t fix the problems.
DEIDRE SAYS: You do need practical help as much as medication and there is some out there.
Home-Start offer friendship and practical support to struggling families with young kids (home-start.org.uk, 0800 068 6368). See carersuk.org and turn2us.org.uk for more advice and help.
Please let me know how you get on.
