DEAR DEIDRE: MY drinking has been out of control since I was furloughed. I regularly drink 20 cans of strong lager a day.
I have struggled with drink since I was a teenager. I stopped drinking altogether eight years ago but fell off the wagon with lockdown.

I am a 55-year-old man. I have read books on stopping and got dry before with medication.
I have tried to stop this time but I feel so ill that I have to have another drink.
I live alone. I have grown-up sons but they don’t phone much.
I don’t want to bother them nor my doctor. Can you help me?
DEIDRE SAYS: Do not try to stop boozing completely because it can be very dangerous to do so at your drinking levels.
Phone your GP and be open with your sons that you need their support.
