Fans were shocked after the late Kobe Bryant was not included in the 2020 Emmys “In Memoriam” tribute.
“Surprised that they left #KobeBryant out of the In Memoriam segment. Granted, he wasn’t really part of the television industry, but as an NBA star, he still had a strong presence on television. #Emmys,” tweeted one fan.
“What! No #KobeBryant #inmemoriam? He was on TV all the time! #Emmys #Emmy,” another added.
“Hey Emmys 2020, you left out Kobe Bryant in the “in memorium” dedications. #KOBE,” a Twitter user echoed.
“Still waiting on part 2 of the memoriam where people like @kobebryant is shown @TheEmmys. #Emmys2020 #emmy,” said one more.
While Bryant was never nominated for a Prime Time Emmy Award, he won a Sports Emmy for his animated short, “Dear Basketball,” for which he also won an Oscar in 2018.
Adding insult to injury, the award show was broadcast from The Staples Center — the arena where the Lakers play.
This isn’t the first time fans of the NBA legend were disappointed; Bryant was also left off the list of those lost at the 2020 MTV Music Video Awards in August.
Bryant was tragically killed in a helicopter crash in January. He was 41.
