A hangry New Jersey rodent is putting the “pizza squirrel” to shame after brazenly stealing pie from a family’s delivery order, as seen in an uproarious YouTube video.
“I saw a squirrel sitting with two slices of our pizza!” an unnamed Montclair, NJ, resident told Viral Hog about witnessing the ludicrous theft. The mom had decided to order in pizza because she wanted to take a break from cooking, having been quarantined for two months due to the coronavirus.
However, her dreams of enjoying a delicious meal went south after she ventured outside to collect her delivery and saw that an enterprising squirrel had beaten her to the lunch.
Indeed, the 14-second security footage from July 17 shows the opportunistic porch pirate unabashedly snatching not one but two slices of pizza from the box in broad daylight. The incredulous woman chased the furry interloper off the porch, whereupon she discovered that it had gnawed a giant hole in the box.
At that point, she reportedly yelled to her husband, “The squirrel stole our pizza!” However, the hubby didn’t believe her pie-witness testimony until he saw footage of the nutty incident, per her account.
After tossing the tree-hopper-tampered meal, they contacted the delivery service, Grubhub, which gave them a “full refund for the order without even asking,” says the grateful woman.
This squirrel isn’t the only rodent with a predilection for pizza. A woodchuck in Philadelphia (Pizza-tawney Phil?) made waves in April after it was filmed nonchalantly munching a slice on a woman’s porch. And a pizza-loving rat in New York City has become an underground legend after dragging whole slices of pizza through the subway on multiple occasions.
