Even if you love cleaning, you’ll know that scrubbing oven racks is one of the most thankless tasks on your list.

Because of the heat of the oven dirt bakes on, which means using loads of chemicals and growing huge guns from scrubbing away.

Some people prefer to leave theirs in the bath overnight with a dryer sheet and some washing up liquid, but this hack could be just as useful.

Australian parents have been posting in their droves on the Mums Who Clean Facebook group about an easy way to shine up those racks like they’re brand new.

In the bath or a large tray that fits the racks, add any standard washing powder and some water.

Leave them to soak for as long as you want, then use a cloth (preferably an old one as lots of gunk will come off) to wipe away the grime.

One of the posts on the group read: ‘To the lady that posted about cleaning her oven racks in the bath tub with washing powder, thank you!

‘I have never been able to get mine so clean ever before! I cannot thank you enough for making this daunting task so simple!’

If you’re putting metal shelves in the bath it might be worth popping an old towel underneath it so it doesn’t scratch your enamel. You’ll also want to rinse plenty of times with cold water before you put them back in clean.

As the posts were from Australia, the brands of soap powder used included Di San and Biozet Attack – both ones that aren’t available here in the UK.

However, any washing powder will do the trick, so just use what you have already.

After all, aren’t these hacks all about using what we have in the house and not buying more (and stronger) products?
