A mum was left terrified after a seeing a masked man staring through the window of her house and looking at her two-year-old son.

Kiri Smith, 27, was at home in Somerton, Somerset, shortly before 11am on Tuesday when she heard her son calling her into her front room.

Her blood ran cold after seeing a the man standing at her window waving at the toddler.

He then ran off after spotting Kiri in the room, reports SomersetLive.

She said: "My son asked me to come into the other room and then I saw him standing there.

"He had what looked like a black scarf around his face and was looking at my son and waving at him.

"I'm not sure what he was doing but it was extremely concerning to think that he was looking into my house and scaring my child.

"It's very concerning because there are a lot of young children around here.

"I've not been in the town for long but I've never seen anything like that happen before.

"I didn't see anything inappropriate but it's very scary to think about what he might have been planning to do."

The incident has been reported to the police.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "A man with his face covered was reported to be in the garden of a property in Somerton shortly before 11am on Tuesday, February 11.

"The man also looked into the window of the property.

"The incident has been logged and advice provided to the householder."
