News broke today that the actress will be playing the famous comic character in an upcoming DC universe crossover event. The special, which will premiere on The CW in December, will combine The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl for an epic collab.

But it won’t be just a one-time appearance for Batwoman. In addition to the crossover, The CW is currently planning her very own series! And, let’s just say, it’s going to be a little different than the 1950s version.

The new Batwoman, which is modeled after the 2006 reincarnation of the character, will reportedly be an outspoken, Jewish lesbian who fights crime in Gotham. Caroline Dries, who has previously written and produced for Smallville, Melrose Place and The Vampire Diaries, is leading the show, so you know it’s going to be good!

The Hollywood Reporter reported that the network made it a priority to cast an openly gay actress, so Ruby was a perfect fit for the role. She’s previously starred on Orange is the New Black, in Pitch Perfect 3 and John Wick: Chapter 2. And now, she’ll be fighting crime alongside other iconic DC superheroes.

She took to Instagram to announce the good news and express her excitement for the upcoming series, posting a photo of her and the Batwoman comic with the caption, “The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different. Thank you everyone. Thank you god.”

Not much else is known about the show just yet, but it’s currently slated to come out sometime in 2019 or 2020. We can’t wait, and neither can these excited fans!
