A boss was branded “abusive” when he made a teenage employee write a five-page apology for arriving to work 10 minutes late.
Even though the young worker had only missed her start time once in an entire year, he made her grovel to keep her job.
On Facebook, devastated employee Madison shared her story.
She wrote: “I show up to late to work ONE TIME.
“Have any of you all been forced to write an apology letter to management for being late or anything else or is my boss just insane?
“By the way this is only page one. It had to be five pages no f***ing joke.”
Madison added: “This was after I’d been working here for an entire year AND he said I had to do it on my own time and I had a deadline.
“He said ‘bring it in by your next shift or you’re done.”
The 19-year-old, from Blackstone, Massachusetts, shared a snippet of the essay she’d been forced to write.
It snippet of it reads: “Being on time displays a person’s respect for people and time.
“At work, people who show up late give off the impression that they don’t value their employer/coworkers’ time, or they consider their time to be more important.”
Madison completed her boss’ task but the request left a sour taste in her mouth.
She wasn’t alone as the Facebook post quickly went viral.
In less than 24 hours it’s garnered 2,400 comments – and people aren’t happy with the manager’s actions.
One responder wrote: “This sounds illegal. I would have told him NO this is not school.”
Another said: “Big power trip! Tell him to get f***ed.”
And a third added: “What's next? Spanking? This is abusive.”
Hundreds of commenters left Madison their words of support – and some urged her to quit her job and find an employer that respects her.
The teen has since thanked the strangers for their kind words.
She wrote: “I’m writing this in regard to my last post from about an hour ago about the 5 page written apology to my boss for being late.
“I have read all the comments on that post (over 1,000 comments in 1 hour) and am filled with emotion.
“I am a 19-year-old, young server who is extremely good at her job, but I definitely don’t have the tactics or confidence to stick up for myself like I should. (I am a total pushover, as you all helped me notice).
“I want to thank you all for helping me realise how stupid I am for writing that letter to my boss, and how wrong it was for him to make me write it in the first place.
“Thanks to all of you, I am QUITTING FOR REAL.”
