Ask most people what would be on the itinerary on a holiday to Australia, and it’s likely that a visit to Sydney will be high on the list.
The vibrant city has long drawn in visitors from around the globe thanks to its epic skyline, awe-inspiring landmarks and seriously spectacular surroundings.
And with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle set to go exploring Sydney as part of their royal tour of Australia and New Zealand , we’re betting it will give holidaymakers serious travel envy.
But what exactly is there to see in Sydney?
From the breathtaking Opera House to the impressive Sydney Harbour Bridge, we take a look at some of the city’s top attractions and things to visit…
For an extra helping hand, we’ve also searched out where to find cheap flights and hotels if you are planning a trip.
1. Sydney Opera House
Think of Sydney and chances are images of its iconic Sydney Opera House will spring to mind. The jaw-dropping building boasts impressive architecture inspired by ship sails seen on the harbour.
It was quite the project wen it was built back in the 1950s – in fact, it exceeded its original estimated budget by over 14 times!
Nowadays the venue hosts over 40 shows a week including concerts, musicals, magic shows, dance performances and even the occasional food festival.
2. Sydney Harbour Bridge
This steel arch bridge across Sydney Harbour serves as a transport hub for cars, bikes, pedestrians and even trains, connecting the city’s business district to the North Shore.
The bridge itself makes for a pretty spectacular view, but for those who are feeling really brave you can climb along the structure – well worth it for the incredible panoramics of the skyline and harbour alone.
3. Taronga Zoo
Taronga Zoo looks after over 4,000 animals across over 350 species, many of which are threatened. There’s plenty of opportunity to see the animals up close and learn about conservation efforts, as well as other ways to get involved to help.
The zoo can be reached by ferry from Circular Quay in Sydney – so you’ll get to enjoy some pretty great views on the journey there and back too!
4. Bondi Beach
If you’re looking for a picture-perfect beach, then Bondi Beach is unlikely to disappoint. With its fine white sands, crystalline waters and lush green backdrop, it looks like something out of a film set.
The beach is also renowned for being a surfer’s paradise thanks to the impressive rolling waves, while those after a laidback vibe will find plenty of places to unwind thanks to the beachfront cafés and pubs.
5. Darling Harbour
Right by Sydney city centre, this picturesque harbour is ideal for those after a leisurely stroll, not to mention there are plenty of bustling bars and restaurants if you want to stop for a meal with a view.
