It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today. Verne was an extremely caring individual. He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible. Verne hoped he made a positive change with the platform he had and worked towards spreading that message everyday. He inspired people around the world with his drive, determination, and attitude. On film & television sets, commercial shoots, at comic-con’s & personal appearances, to his own YouTube videos, he was there to show everyone what he was capable of doing. Even though his stature was small and his parents often wondered if he’d be able to reach up and open doors on his own in his life, he went on to open more doors for himself and others than anyone could have imagined. He also touched more peoples hearts than he will ever know. Verne was also a fighter when it came to his own battles. Over the years he’s struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much. During this recent time of adversity he was baptized while surrounded by his family. The family appreciates that they have this time to grieve privately. Depression and Suicide are very serious issues. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Verne’s name to either of his two favorite charities; The Starkey Hearing Foundation and Best Buddies. Photo by @paulmobleystudio

“In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Verne’s name to either of his two favorite charities; The Starkey Hearing Foundation and Best Buddies.”

Troyer was admitted to hospital earlier this month, though the reason for his admission was not confirmed at the time.

In April 2017, Troyer revealed that he was entering rehab and would be getting treatment for a long-time battle with alcohol addiction.

He said at the time: “I’m willing to continue my fight day by day.

“I’ve been receiving treatment for the last week and I am voluntarily checking into a treatment center later this week to continue to get the help that I need,” he said.

I want to thank everyone that’s reached out with their messages of support, it truly means the world to me. With your support, I got this.”

As an actor, Troyer began his career as a stunt double in Baby’s Day Out.

Roles in The Love Guru, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Men in Black and more followed.

Verne has also appeared in reality shows The Surreal Life and Celebrity Big Brother over the years.

“Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honour of working with him, Mike Myers said in a statement to Digital Spy.

“It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed.”

Tributes from other friends and colleagues have been posted on social media since the sad news was announced.

R.I.P. Verne Troyer aka Mini Me. You made it to that #1 Spot 🙏🏽 Glad we got to make history together. #goontosoon #love

It is with such sadness that I write this post. I just heard the horrible news that @vernetroyer has died. I met Verne many times, including when we took this shot at the @starkeycares gala. He was always so warm & sweet. A beautiful person all the way around. I hate to hear that he has been sad in any way. He was always going to fundraisers & doing what he could to help others. Verne, may you now be freed from all your demons & struggles & running free & happy on a beautiful cloud with the angels. I’m sending all my love to his family in their time of mourning. Verne was a wonderful soul that will never be forgotten. Thank you for sharing him with the world! #RIP #love #vernetroyer
