On April 3, the 2022 Grammy Awards were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. At the award show, BTS were nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook also performed their song “Butter” at the 2022 Grammy Awards. In a VLIVE livestream, Jimin shared that he felt the members of BTS “were in” their “own little world” before performing at the Grammy Awards.
BTS performed at the 2022 Grammy Awards
At the 2022 Grammy Awards, BTS were nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Butter.” Doja Cat and SZA ended up taking home the award for “Kiss Me More.”
BTS performed “Butter” toward the beginning of the award show. The band’s performance of “Butter” featured an elaborate spy theme with a never-before-seen dance break.
Because Jin is currently recovering from surgery, he spent most of the performance singing from a control panel that fit the performance’s theme.
Jungkook descended from the ceiling to start the “Butter” performance, calling back to his “Euphoria” performance from the septet’s BTS World Tour Love Yourself: Speak Yourself.
Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, and V started the “Butter” performance from different seats in the audience, with V talking to Olivia Rodrigo.
The members joined each other on stage and performed “Butter.” The new dance break incorporated lasers and impressive jacket choreography. For the final part of the song, Jin joined Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook and danced on stage.
BTS being in their ‘own little world’ made Jimin feel ‘comfortable’
After the 2022 Grammy Awards ended, the members of BTS held a VLIVE livestream to talk about the award show. In the VLIVE, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook shared behind-the-scenes details about their performance.
“But we tried a lot of different things at the Grammys and practiced for a long time,” J-Hope said in the VLIVE according to an English translation.
“We were really nervous too,” V added.
Jimin then shared an anecdote about the start of the band’s “Butter” performance.
“I wanted to mention this,” Jimin said on VLIVE. “Before going on stage, we were all spread apart. So we were really nervous about that. But our mics were on… So we could talk to each other. So it felt like we were in our own little world.”
He added, “So it was kind of… It made me comfortable.”
Jungkook then mimicked the BTS members before their “Butter” stage began, saying “‘Can you hear me? Can you? Can you?’”
Jungkook thinks the band’s rehearsal was ‘better’
In the VLIVE, Jungkook told fans that he though BTS’ rehearsal of “Butter” was “better” than the performance seen on TV.
“To be honest, we did a lot better at the rehearsal,” Jungkook said.
Suga agreed, saying, “At the rehearsal we were all kind of relaxed.”
