Vocal group The Overtones have cancelled their summer tour following the tragic death of member Timmy Matley.
The group had originally postponed two dates last month, but in a new statement have said that they need time to deal with the situation. They have reassured fans, however, that they will return later this year with new ‘uplifting’ music as a tribute to Timmy.
The post on their Facebook reads: “After much careful consideration we have decided to cancel our Summer tour dates. Not only do we feel that we need some time to process the loss of our friend, brother and band mate, we also want to take some time to re-group and come back later on this year with new music and more live dates.
“This is absolutely not the end of The Overtones, we just want to make sure everything we do next is a celebration of love, friendship and good times that will both comfort and uplift you, not only as a tribute to our dear friend Timmy, but also as a tribute to the amazing eight years we spent together as a band and the memories we have made and shared with you all.
“We’ve been extremely comforted and encouraged by the amazing support we have received over the last couple of weeks and we look forward to showing our appreciation with what comes next. All our love Darren, Mike, Mark and Lachie xx“
Matley was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer in 2016 and was planning to skydive out of a plane this Thursday (May 3) to raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
