‘Cuz I Love You’ holds a special place in Lizzo’s heart
2019 was a monumental year for Lizzo.

While many can agree that every one of the singer’s tracks automatically puts them in a good mood, “Cuz I Love You” hits differently as it details an emotional journey from heartbreak to regained confidence.
During an exclusive sit down discussion with Pandora, Lizzo opened up about the inspiration behind the powerful ballad and shared the reason why this song resonates so much with her.
“‘Cuz I Love You’ is my favorite song I think I’ve ever written. It’s really simple, but I wrote it in like ten minutes and that’s a record for me,” she revealed. “I remember I was in the studio with the X Ambassadors and we were working on a whole other song, actually Heaven Help Me.””
She went on to detail the moment leading up to the songwriting, which she says actually inspired the lyrics.
“And I was telling him (Sam) while we were on a lunch break about you know this guy, I was crying in his car, and he hated when I cried and was like ‘why are you crying? Stop.’ And I’m like ‘I’m not crying because I’m sad, I’m crying because I love you,’” she continued. “Sam from X Ambassadors was like ‘that is a song,’ and he sang it right there, he was like ‘I’m crying, because I love youuu.’ I was like ‘woah, can we make that song like right now?’ And then we dropped everything we were doing and made it in like ten minutes.
The song has since become a fan favorite
While the song is one that many can’t seem to get enough of, Lizzo recently proved just how impactful it could be following the 2020 Grammy Awards.
The singer kicked off the night with a show-stopping performance of “Cuz I Love You” and “Truth Hurts,” which showcased her incredibly powerful vocals.
