From high-end homes in New Zealand to castles in France to historic villas in Tuscany, Italy, you can now book new luxury homes around the world through Airbnb Luxe.
Airbnb launched the new tier today, adding to its portfolio of over 6 million peer-to-peer listings worldwide.
In 2018, the number of Airbnb bookings for listings worth at least $1,000 per night increased more than 60%, which alerted the company of the need to meet the increasing demand for luxury properties, Airbnb explained in a press release sent to USA TODAY.

Airbnb acquired the luxury villa and home rental website Luxury Retreats in 2017, which helped to jumpstart Airbnb’s venture into creating a luxury-home platform.
“The new Airbnb Luxe includes over 2,000 handpicked homes around the world, each one passing strict evaluation across 300 criteria, such as expert level of design and premium quality furniture,” Nick Guezen, Airbnb’s global director of portfolio strategy told USA TODAY. “Only 5% of homes that applied made the cut.”

“Our criteria looked to see if there were spaces to socialize in the gardens, enough seats at the dining room tables to match the number of bedrooms, as well as social spaces to have meals in different areas of the homes,” said Guezen.
“Each home also has something unique about it. For example, there’s a Luxe home in Banff, which has a T-Rex skull in the entrance — only one of four of its type in the world,” said Guezen. “The home also has gym, with a full-sized boxing ring.”

“This complimentary concierge is essentially a trip designer that comes with every Luxe booking, whether you need a Michelin-star dining reservation (or) book a private driver or personal training sessions in your own private gym,” Keith Monaghan, Airbnb’s global head of trip design, told USA TODAY.
