One day left

If you live near London, you may want to consider Eurostar destinations such as Paris or Brussels which can be reached in approximately two hours (fares in December start from around £109.50).
Amsterdam is also an option – the service takes just under four hours. (You can check out our guide to the best things to see in Amsterdam for a dose of inspiration).
Meanwhile, France can be ideal thanks to the short flight times – Nice and Bordeaux are approximately an hour's flight, and you can find cheap fares with the likes of easyJet or Ryanair.
If you don't have a free weekend or can't take a Friday/Monday, that doesn't mean you can't treat yourself. Why not indulge with cheap UK spa breaks or get in the festive spirit with a day trip to one of the UK's top Christmas markets?
Two to three days left

If you've got two days of annual leave, there are plenty of destinations with short flights for less than two hours – Munich and Berlin are ideal and they also happen to play host to Germany's best festive markets.
Prague can also be a handy destination, and it's got so many beautiful things to see and do it's sure to make for a memorable way to end the year.

It's also worth looking for midweek flights as the rates can often work out significantly cheaper than weekends – and three days will still offer you plenty of time to explore the city.
Four to six days left
