GOOD NEWS of a vaccine roll-out in December has caused a surge in holiday searches and bookings in the UK.
Brits boosted by the prospect of a holiday without fear of catching Covid have been searching for their spring / summer 2021 breaks.
According to Skyscanner, UK searches for travel between April and August are up 48 per cent compared to last week.
Those prepared to take a risk and book early could make big savings this year, as prices for travel in 2021 remain much cheaper than usual.
Flights to Spain in April for example are available from £19, compared to the average price of £146, Greece in May for £41, compared to the average price of £249, and Italy in June for £32, compared to the average price of £139.
Skyscanner's Senior Global Brand Director, Jo McClintock said: "Over the last few months we've seen travellers in the UK reacting to changes as they happen.
“Obviously, it’s early days but with the promising vaccine news hitting the headlines yesterday we did see an immediate spike in searches for travel next spring and summer.”
Travel Supermarket also saw an immediate spike in interest on Monday after the vaccine announcement, with a 54 per cent week on week uplift.
Michael Vinales, Managing Director of Olympic Holidays told The Telegraph: “On Monday, we saw a double-digit increase in holiday searches compared to the previous Monday; with Greece, Cyprus and the Canary Islands being most in demand.
“Prices haven’t inflated hugely yet, but holidays are starting to sell fast.”
