As it turns out, there are holiday homes on private islands all over the world that are surprisingly affordable.

In fact, some are right here in the UK.

So if you're looking for an unforgettable getaway, here are some places to start your journey….

This slice of paradise in the Philippines will comfortable house six people though you can have more if you don't mind camping.

While not the most luxurious of apartments, you'll be surrounded by nature and there are plenty of coconut trees if you love the idea of enjoying a coconut punch in the hammock.

A week's stay starts from £363, working out to be just £8.64 per person per night.

Anglesey, Wales – £16.79pppn


Picturesque Wales has so much to offer, including this home on a private island off Anglesey.

It's just cut off from the mainland by a tidal causeway and has views of the Menai Strait and Snowdonia.

There are a total of seven bedrooms, sleeping up to 13 people. And even pets are allowed.

The cheapest rate we found was seven nights from October 11, which comes to a total of £1,528 – or £16.79 per person per night.

Minnesota, USA – £34.31


Have a lot of guests? Try this 45 acre island in Minnesota.

The 108-year-old property will house 20 and there's even a sauna you can enjoy.

A week here is just £4,803.03 – or £34.31 per person per night.

Venice, Italy – £35.90pppn


Escape the crowds in Venice at this farmhouse, located on a private island next to Cavallino-Treporti.

There's plenty of room – the property can sleep upwards of 16 guests and there's a dining table that's long enough to seat all of them.

A week there costs just £4,021, working out to £35.90 per person per night.

Connecticut, USA – £39.47pppn


For a large group, this island, which can sleep up to 39 people across several cottages and cabins, would be perfect.

For a full week, the property costs $350 (£276.30) per person, which works out to be £39.47 per person per night.

It's rustic but if you enjoy the great outdoors, there are kayaks and canoes that you can use on the lakes.

Isletas de Granada, Nicaragua – £64.07pppn


This romantic hideaway in Nicaragua has room for just two people.

It's a luxury villa with all the bells and whistles, including a private pool and boating facilities.

A week on the island costs £897, including service fee, meaning it's just £64.07 per person per night.

Ontario, Canada – £64.33pppn


Located in a biosphere reserve, this private island home is surrounded by nature.

There are kayaks for you to explore the region and you can swim or fish right off the dock.

Perfect for a small family, it sleeps four people. With a week's stay coming to £1801.22, it works out to £64.33 per person per night.

Florida, USA – £81.18pppn


This Old Florida-style home is located on a 4 acre island near Sanibel Island.

It's close enough to drive to nearby Ft Myers Beach or you can just stay put and enjoy the views. And if you're lucky, you might even see dolphins.

A week here costs £5,682.72 – or £81.18 per person per night.

Fort Morgan Cay, Honduras – £189.02pppn


This tiny cay is part of the Bay Islands of Honduras and is spacious enough for 16 people.

It's quite a bit pricier – at £21,170 for a week for 16 people, or £189.02pp – but this includes three meals a day.

Plus, you will have full use of snorkelling gear, paddleboards, kayaks and more.
