BEFORE you book your next hotel stay, it might be best to give them a call first.
Many are now offering deals and discounts to encourage people to stay, some of which they are unable to advertise online.
Some of the larger, more lavish hotel chains are unlikely to be able to advertise cheap deals online to avoid damaging their image of a luxury resort.
However, calling them up may see you getting a bigger bargain than usual as they look to fill rooms following lockdown.
Jane from HOSPA, who recently launched the Sleepover to Help Turnover scheme which offers freebies and discounts to hotel guests, spoke to Sun Online Travel about how to find a bargain following the lockdown.
She explained: "Families should look where they want to go and just call the hotel – they may have great offers which they can't make public but can offer you."
"You wont find many big names putting deals out there in the public space as they don't want to damage their brand or get their rates back to normal, but if you call them you can always get something even better."
She also explained that quoting Sleepover to Help Turnover will get your a bargain if the hotel has signed up to the scheme.
"Over 100 hotels are on the list," she explained. "Some of those are also chains so there is so much choice."
The scheme, which allows hotels to sign up offering their own deals or bargains, includes anything from free champagne and discounted dinner. to a free room upgrade.
You can stay in a hotel if you are in tier 1 or tier 2, but not if in tier 3 in England.
Booze can also be served 24/7 due to a loophole in the latest government guidelines which force pubs and restaurants to stop serving by 11pm.
Here are some bargain Christmas and New Year deals for a staycation this month, from just £35.
