FAMILIES wanting a safari holiday without heading abroad can book an overnight stay at the luxury safari lodges in the UK, which have close up views of elephants and cheetahs.

West Midland Safari Park's suites are open to the public, offering the only overnight stays with the elephants in the country.

Of the eight suites, six of the lodges are in the elephant park while two are close to the cheetahs.

The eight rooms were set to open last summer but were delayed due to coronavirus.

Inside each lodge, which can welcome up to five guests, are open-plan living rooms as well as outdoor seating areas and balconies.

A king-size bedroom will be on the lower floor while the upper floor can sleep up to three people, with options to add a cot.

Guests will be able to watch the elephants including young male Sutton, as well as his aunt, Latabe and mum, Five.

Two of the lodges will overlook the cheetah's area – the two-storey lodges will sleep up to six people – with cheetahs, Asrael and Bappe brought over from France earlier this year.

On-site chefs can even prepare your dinner and deliver it to your room, while breakfast is also delivered so you can have amazing views while eating.

Other extras include free parking, 24-hour concierge service and free WiFi, and a stay at the lodges also includes admission to the park and wristbands for the rides at the theme park.

Prices start from £147 per child, per night, and £171 per adult, per night although you will have to wait – the lodges are fully booked until November 2022.

The park's red panda cottages are opening from August 2, with bookings available, and the second phase of the lodges – which hope to include white rhino and giraffe lodges – hope to open next year.
