The Crowther Lab says London could also suffer from the type of extreme drought that rocked Barcelona in 2008.

Experts made the prediction by comparing temperatures now to what they were in the “pre-industrial period”.

“That means there will be new political challenges, new infrastructure challenges, that we have not faced before.

“We are absolutely not prepared for this. Planning for climate change needs to start yesterday. The sooner it starts, the less the impact will be.”

The study further says winters in Europe will increase, on average, by 4.7C while summers will increase by 3.5C.

The UN has previously warned exceeding 1.5C will put us in a “highly uncertain world”.
