The heat is on embattled Manhattan DA Cy Vance Jr.
Liz Crotty, a former prosecutor in the Manhattan DA’s office, has filed papers to run and try to become the borough’s first female district attorney.
“I think it’s time for a woman to be district attorney. It’s long overdue,” Crotty told The Post on Friday.
Her candidacy comes at a time when critics are calling for Vance to resign after accusing him of mishandling sex assault cases, including probes of Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein.
Crotty was an assistant DA from 2000 to 2006 under legendary former Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau and now has her own criminal defense practice.
She prosecuted street crime as well as a case enforcing economic sanctions against Iraq before the fall of its dictator, Saddam Hussein. In her private practice, she has represented families of victims from the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
Crotty is the second woman to jump into the race. Civil rights attorney Tahanie Aboushi announced her candidacy last month.
They join a crowded field for the 2021 Democratic primary that already includes state Assemblyman Dan Quart and former federal prosecutor Alvin Bragg.
Vance has yet to declare if he will seek a fourth term and has only $30,000 on hand in his campaign account, records show.
