GEORGE P. Bush, nephew of former president George W. Bush and son of former Florida governor Jeb Bush, has confirmed that he will vote for President Trump this November.
Over the weekend, a report by The New York Times reported that George W. Bush would not vote for President Trump, and that Jeb Bush was undecided.
"Trump is the only thing standing between America and socialism,” George P. Bush stated to The Dallas Morning News and The Texas Tribune on Tuesday morning.
As the Texas Land Commissioner, George P. Bush is the only member of the Bush family currently holding public office.
He is the highest-profile Trump supporter in the Bush family.
“It’s clear, Republican policies are working,” he stated according to The Dallas Morning News.
“Even in a global pandemic where we have had to take unprecedented measures to protect public health, the economy is already returning.”
“It’s clear, America and Texas will continue to be stronger than ever.”
Following The New York Times’ report, a spokesperson for George W. Bush disputed the claim that the former president would not vote for Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
Spokesman Freddy Ford said that Bush is “retired from presidential politics and has not indicated how he will vote,” according to The Hill.
In 2014, George P. Bush told The Texas Tribune that he would not endorse his father, Jeb Bush, if Jeb ran for president in 2016.
George P. Bush previously endorsed Trump during the 2016 presidential election, and has been vocal in his support for the president over the years.
Trump has referred to him as “the only Bush that likes me,” according to The Hill.
