GHISLAINE Maxwell’s lawyers have slammed child abuse allegations against her as “meritless” as they battle to clear the alleged Jeffrey Epstein "pimp".

The 58-year-old has assembled a legal ‘dream team’ after the FBI swooped on her $1 million bolt hole and she was charged with luring underage girls to be abused by Epstein.

Her lawyers include a former prosecutor Christian Everdell who won an award for helping to put Mexican drug lord ‘El Chapo’ behind bars.

They have joined Maxwell’s other attorney Laura Menninger, who has been representing her in a previous civil actions.

Menninger was financial analyst at Goldman before going to Stanford Law School and then moved to Colorado where she became a Deputy State Public Defender.

She has now issued the first formal response to the charges brought against Maxwell over Epstein, the socialite's former boyfriend.

They came as part formal response to a civil suit filed against Maxwell in January by women who alleges she was abused by her and Epstein, ABC News reports.

Much of Menninger's response dealt with that case, but she also dealt with Maxwell’s arrest.

“The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York on June 29, 2020, caused a meritless indictment to be issued against Ms. Maxwell,” wrote Menninger,

The attorney said Maxwell was answering Does' complaint "to the extent that she can without waiving the right against self-incrimination under the United States and New York constitutions and otherwise will invoke that right."

"Ms. Maxwell’s denials of factual allegations [in Doe's lawsuit] shall be interpreted the same as pleading not guilty to the various counts in any criminal indictment," Menninger wrote.

The complainant – known as ‘Jane Doe’ – alleges that she was first approached by the pair in 1994 at a summer music camp in Michigan, when Doe was 13 years old.

“Jane Doe was their first known victim and was subsequently abused by Epstein and Maxwell for years as a young girl, suffering unimaginable physical and psychological trauma and distress,” her complaint alleges.

“Maxwell also regularly facilitated Epstein’s abuse of Doe and was frequently present when it occurred.”

Doe’s attorney Robert Glassman said: “Ms. Maxwell is once again deflecting blame on the victims themselves for the significant role she played in causing the victims irreparable damage.

Paedophile Epstein hanged himself in a New York prison last year aged 66 as he awaited charges of child sex trafficking.

“We are disappointed that she is taking this position, but look forward to holding her responsible for what she did.”

Everdell and his team were awarded a 'True American Hero Award' by the Federal Drug Agent Foundation for their apprehension of the former head of the Sinaloa cartel in Mexico.

Also in the team is Mark S. Cohen, one of three Brooklyn prosecutors who won the conviction of Thomas Pitera, a Bonnano organised crime family hit man known as “Tommy Karate”.
