The 35-year-old was detained this morning, following the attack last Friday in Babbs Mill Park, Solihull, as the girl was walking home from school.
The youngster’s throat was cut during the attack and she was taken to hospital for treatment, before later being discharged.
The incident is the third attack on a female in the park since February.
In February a woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in the park.
And in June another woman was attacked in the area.
Chief Inspector Colin Barnes, from Solihull Police, said: “We would like to thank those who shared the appeal and would urge anyone who has any information which may assist our investigation to contact us.”
He added: “Patrols will continue in the area to offer reassurance to the community."
Anyone with information should call 101, quoting crime number 20SH/145636Y/18, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously in 0800 555 111.
