A huntswoman facing prosecution for whipping a protester has died in a riding accident.
Jane Goring, also known as Jane Miller, was killed during a draghunt yesterday, it has emerged.
Confirming the 57-year-old’s death, the Mid Surrey Farmers’ Draghounds group posted on Facebook: "We very much regret to inform you that Jane Goring was tragically killed whilst out dragging yesterday at Leigh.
"On behalf of the masters and members of the drag hunt, we send our condolences and thoughts to Richard and Jane’s family at this awful time."
Draghunting is a form of equestrian sport where mounted riders hunt the trail of an artificially laid scent with hounds.
In a video which went viral last year, Mrs Goring, whose partner Richard Goring is part of the UK’s oldest family hotel dynasty, screamed "get off my horse" and lashed out at the man on a hunt in Herstmonceux, East Sussex.
A second video appeared to show Mr Goring trying to restrain his 56-year-old partner as she screamed: "F***ing terrorists, f**k off."
Paying tribute to her on Facebook, one family member wrote: "Sleep tight Jane, we will never ever forget you."
She continued: "Thank you for everything and for making our grandpa so incredibly happy, something we will never forget and always love you for.
"We will miss you so much – you really were one of life’s legends, with the bestest laugh I have ever heard.
"You were such a special lady and have left so many kisses on everyone’s hearts."
Richard, 79, defended her actions after the first video emerged in November last year when he said she attacked the balaclava-clad man because she was scared.
"She was very scared and she still is. She was frightened. She was scared, the horse was scared. She was surrounded by terrorists," he said.
Although police ruled there was not enough evidence to prosecute her, she faced two criminal charges through a civil prosecution, the Daily Mail reports.
She denied beating animal rights campaigner Simon Medhurst, who was a member of the South Coast Hunt Saboteurs.
She also denied assaulting Shirley Makin, a member of the same group.
