Legendary royal reporter hypes up ‘William and Andrew’ fight at WWE Royal Rumble

WWE has announced veteran BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond as its new " Royal Rumble Correspondent", in what fans have dubbed the “most bizarre collaboration” ever.

Announcing the news on Twitter on Thursday (January 28), the wrestling company shared a tongue-in-cheek video of Jennie, 70, reporting on wrestling news.

In the hilarious clip, she sits between two ornate silver candlesticks as she reads the "news" from papers on a polished mahogany desk.

She says: "Hello I am Jennie Bond, Royal Rumble Correspondent, ready to bring you the news and views ahead of the Royal Rumble this Sunday live on the WWE network.

"Over the coming days, I’ll be spilling all the royal-tea as we anticipate tussles, scuffles, and plenty of handbags at dawn.

"No confirmation as of now from the higher-ups on any surprise appearances, although history has told us that we should very much expect the unexpected.

"What we do know is that each Royal Rumble match will see 30 competitors enter the ring and only one will stand triumphant."

Jennie then drops a cheeky joke at the Royal Family.

She continues: "However, all eyes will surely be on the astonishing princely conflict between William and Andrew.

"Who could have predicted such a growing sense of animosity between the pair?

"Yes, William Goldberg and Andrew McIntyre (AKA Drew McIntyre) will slog it out for the title.

"The outcome here really could have astronomical repercussions."

Unsurprisingly, viewers were gobsmacked and the clip has already been watched more than 16,000 times since it was uploaded this afternoon.

One person tweeted: "I can't decide if this is the best thing you've done or if this is a sign that you've got too much money. What. Is. Happening?"

"Well this is the most bizarre collaboration I’ve ever seen," commented another.

Someone else joked: "This is a simulation."

"Is this the most random British celebrity to feature in WWE?!" asked another baffled fan.

Royal Rumble is a professional wrestling event by WWE and this year it will be held on Sunday, January 31.

The event has taken place every January since 1988 and is named after the Royal Rumble match.

It is shown on pay-pay-view and is one of WWE’s Big Four alongside WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series.
