Man in his 30s dies in police chase after car collides with lorry in east London

A man who was being pursued by police has died in a crash in East London.

His car collided with a lorry, and the man, who was in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It happened shortly before 3am on the North Circular Road in Walthamstow. 

Police have confirmed the incident is being investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The man had failed to stop for police in the build-up to the collision.

A Met Police statement said: ‘At around 02:54 hours on Sunday, 21 October, a car was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A406 North Circular Road at the junction with the Waterworks Roundabout, E17. 

‘Emergency services attended and the car driver, believed to be aged in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. We are not aware of any other injury, nor do we believe there was any other person in the car.

‘Prior to the collision, the car had failed to stop for police.

‘The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and the Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched an independent investigation.’
