German politicians condemn Nutella promotion that saw people have to eat 35lbs of the spread to earn a football

The makers of Nutella are under fire for running a World Cup promotion encouraging children to eat almost 35lb of the chocolate spread to win a football.
To get enough points to earn one of the balls printed with the signatures of Germany’s World Cup team, customers would have to buy 35 jars of Nutella.
German Green party MP Renate Kuenast said she and other parliamentarians had complained to the country’s advertising council about the promotion.

She added: ‘Once again, the food industry has used the football World Cup to market sweets to children. It’s a red card for [manufacturer] Ferrero’s Nutella.’

The MPs want the advertising council to block the campaign and issue a warning to Ferrero’s German division.
