A Florida business owner has been indicted for allegedly shooting a high school football coach’s son to death – as frightening footage shows their altercation before shots were fired.
Lloyd Preston Brewer III, 57, was charged with first-degree murder after Garrett Hughes, 21, was shot dead in Key West. Brewer confronted Hughes after he urinated on the side of his building.
Brewer stated that the 21-year-old was going to pull something from his waistband during the altercation on February 13. Hughes was unarmed.
The real estate mogul told police during an interrogation: ‘I stood my ground..I feared for my life.’
Brewer was initially charged with second-degree murder, but it was upgraded following an indictment by a Monroe County grand jury.
The business owner has also been slapped with additional counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of a concealed firearm permit.

According to a police report, Brewer went into a ‘shooting stance’ but it is unclear when this happens in the video.
Brewer owns the small multi-storefront shopping center where the bar that Hughes exited from is located.
Cops have also released the 911 call, which was made by Brewer himself.
The caller states: ‘Yes, hello, I just shot someone.’ To which the dispatcher says: ‘You just shot someone? Who did you shoot?’
The caller responds: ‘I don’t know – what is his name? Garrett Hughes.’
Then the dispatcher says: ‘Okay, why did you shoot him?’
Brewer says: ‘He came at me aggressively in my parking lot at Conch Town.’

The victim’s family have filed a memo under the terms of Marsy’s Law in a bid to keep Brewer detained before his trial
The business owner is being held without bond, and his next hearing is scheduled for July 7.
A Key West police detective wrote in a report following the shooting: ‘Brewer said it appeared that Hughes was going to pull something from his waist band.
‘Brewer could not identify exactly what was aggressive or threatening about Hughes’ behavior and denied having seen Hughes in possession of any weapons.’
Brewer’s attorney, Chris Mancini, said in a statement to Local 10 News: ‘The Monroe County (State Attorney’s Office) has claimed in the media that the video tape evidence in this case shows things it absolutely does not show.
‘The SAO has been trying to convince the public that ‘this was a senseless killing’ and that Mr. Brewer was ‘annoyed’ and had a ‘warped interpretation of the situation’ and that the video tape evidence does not ‘substantiate a Stand Your Ground defense in this case.’
Meanwhile, the victim’s family have filed a memo under the terms of Marsy’s Law in a bid to keep Brewer detained before his trial. They argue he is a flight risk – because he has numerous tracts of generational landholdings in Georgia.
The detention memo also claims Brewer has a criminal history from 1985 that is described as including ‘acts of violence, firearms, assault, alcohol, drugs, and dishonesty.’
