Shopper, 60, died from stab wound to the heart after being knifed four times in Oxford Circus

A TRAGIC 60-year-old man died from a stab wound to the heart after being knifed four times in Oxford Circus, an inquest heard today.

Stephen Dempsey was killed in a "random and unprovoked attack" in the busy central London shopping district last Thursday.

An inquest into his death today heard how Stephen, from Belfast, was attacked outside the Microsoft store before being rushed to hospital.

Sadly he couldn't be saved, with a post mortem examination confirming he died from a stab wound to the heart.

The hearing was told his body was identified using a bank card found on his person and confirmed using his passport.

Beryl Dempsey previously said Stephen's death had left her "shocked" and "lost for words".

She added: "I feel lost for words. I still feel so shocked and I keep expecting him to just walk back through the door.

"He looked after me and I depended on him for so much. I relied on him for everything and I miss him terribly."

The mum also thanked two hero skateboarders who had stepped in to help for their "courage and bravery".

Police are currently trying to track the two men down after one used his skateboard to restrain the knifeman.

Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Tunstall, who is leading the investigation, said: “In addition to being immensely brave, we believe these two individuals may also be key witnesses.

“In stepping forward as they did to apprehend a violent individual, they showed great courage and potentially prevented others from being attacked.

“I want to be clear that while they used force to subdue the attacker, those actions were entirely reasonable and are not in question.

“They can be assured that we wish to speak to them solely as witnesses.”

Tedi Fanta Hagos, 25, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife.
