Singer from trio who played PM's wedding fumed over festive lockdown

‘Christmas is over… thanks Boris!’: How singer from trio who played PM’s wedding fumed over festive lockdown in Instagram video six months earlier

  • Russell Parsons is part of Fiddlin’ About who played at PM’s wedding on Saturday
  • He had written: ‘When the news hits you hard. Christmas is over… thanks Boris!’
  • Mr Parsons accompanied the post with a comical video as he shouted ‘Nooooo!’
  • Band are ‘acoustic wandering trio’ who have played for Prince Harry and Meghan

A singer from the trio who played at Boris and Carrie Johnson’s wedding party fumed about the Prime Minister cancelling the country’s Christmas plans six months earlier.

Russell Parsons, who is one third of the Fiddlin’ About group, wrote on Instagram on December 20: ‘When the news hits you hard. Christmas is over… thanks Boris!’

The London-based musician accompanied the post with a comical video featuring him in a car with a woman listening to Driving Home For Christmas by Chris Rea.

But this was interrupted by the PM’s press conference on December 19, at which he said: ‘It is with a very heavy heart I must tell you we cannot continue with Christmas.’

Mr Parsons looked increasingly worried at Mr Johnson’s words before shouting ‘Nooooo!’ as he and the woman both pulled shocked faces for the camera.

He then played Take Me Back To London by Ed Sheeran and Stormzy; No Time For Tears by Nathan Dawe and Little Mix; and Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins.

His group Fiddlin’ About, who played at the party in the Downing Street garden on Saturday, describe themselves as ‘one of London’s finest acoustic wandering trios’.

On Saturday evening, Mr and Mrs Johnson’s guests could be overheard signing Don McLean’s hit song American Pie during a summer festival-themed party at No10.

The band, who feature ‘vocal harmonies, acoustic guitars and our signature virtuosic fiddle’, have appeared alongside Sting, Eminem, Rufus Wainwright and Calvin Harris.

Fiddlin’ About have even played in front of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and done corporate events for Facebook, Mastercard, BMW, Red Bull and Zurich.

The band say they have performed ‘thousands’ of times across the UK and Europe, were also involved in Jaguar Land Rover’s launch of their Evoque vehicle.

They have also played at top hotels and members’ clubs including The Four Seasons, Claridges, Spencer House, Annabel’s, Mark’s Club, Soho House and The Groucho.

Fiddlin’ About, who have been together for 15 years, have a range of popular covers such as are Faith by George Michael and I Will Wait by Mumford and Sons.

Also in their repertoire are versions of Shape Of You by Ed Sheeran, Gangsters Paradise by Coolio, Wake Me Up by Avicii and Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis.

Mr and Mrs Johnson are set to delay their honeymoon so the Prime Minister can get back to his desk at No 10 tomorrow and concentrate on the fight against Covid.

The couple tied the knot in secret at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday before celebrating with a small group of family and friends in the Downing Street garden

His wife, who is thought to have hired her wedding dress, said she was ‘very, very happy’. They were set to spend the rest of the three-day weekend at Chequers.

The newlyweds will conduct their first official engagement as husband and wife in a fortnight as they host world leaders and their spouses at the G7 summit in Cornwall.

Mr Johnson is believed to have saved money on his wedding by using a marquee installed in the No10 garden for official events.

Weddings in England are subject to strict coronavirus restrictions, with only up to 30 people able to attend ceremonies until at least June 21.
