UK weather weekend forecast LIVE – Brits to bask in 'early' summer' temperatures as Met Office predicts week-long sun

THE MET Office says that with mercury levels expected to rise, the barmy weather will continue in London for the rest of the week.

Scientists have suggested that Britain’s ‘early summer’ could be caused by a ‘completely unprecedented’ heatwave in the Arctic.

BBC weather forecaster Darren Bett said: ‘The weather is really settling down, there is going to be a lot of dry weather, probably for the next week or so.’

BBC weather forecaster Chris Fawkes also said: “Our settled weather is due to this big area of high pressure.

“We do have a weather front coming in on Sunday and Monday, very weak affair, could bring an odd shower but the emphasis nevertheless remains on an extended run of dry weather with lots of sunshine in the forecast as well. It is going to be mild for the time of year.”

Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin has also said it will be, “a cracking day on Saturday if you like sunny skies, there are plenty of blue skies up and down the land thanks to high pressure.”

The Met Office has also warned that a ‘pollen bomb’ is about to hit Britain due to the high spring temperatures.

'Hot weather could come in fairly early'

Weather expert Jim Dale told the Express: "I think hot weather could come in fairly early as far as April is concerned perhaps.

"I know March is the start of spring but I think we’re probably going to get properly into April before we start to see the searing sort of temperatures."

He added: "I wouldn’t be surprised to see 26C, 27C, 28C in the middle of April.

"Longer-term, given what’s happening globally in terms of the temperature profiles in the southern hemisphere and what’s also happening in the United States, I would not be surprised if we started to see some big highlights – in whichever direction it goes, either cold or hot.

"It is more likely that we see those spikes of heat at early stages because of global warming.

"It’s too difficult to be certain at this moment, but I would not be surprised to see the summer deliver the same kind of heat stress at times."

April ‘heatwave’ set to last for TWO WEEKS

A HEATWAVE is set to scorch the UK for two weeks in April as Brits ready for glorious 18C sunshine this weekend.

There will "barely be a cloud in the sky" over the next two days as the mercury soars above average temperatures of 10C for March.

Britain is set to enjoy "wall-wall-sunshine" on what could be the hottest day of the year so far on Saturday.

The Met Office said the mercury could hit 20C in north-west Scotland and the Moray coast on Saturday – beating Friday's high of 17.5C recorded in the West Sussex village of Wiggonholt.

Elsewhere, temperatures are expected to reach a balmy 15C to 17C – which are above average for March.

And the unseasonably fine weather will continue into Sunday before Brits are set bask in a fortnight of even hotter temperatures in April.

What plants & veggies to plant now to make the most of the weather

Fruit and Vegetables to plant in March

Although many plant their peas later on in Spring, it is completely fine starting them off in March.

Simply sow the peas outdoors, or in a cold frame.

Once they have grown large enough to handle, transfer them into a their last growing spot.

Normally carrots aren't planted until April, but if you'd like an early crop in June, go ahead and plant them in late March.

If your soil is stony, opt for shorter varieties such as Chantenay, as you may end up with split roots.

    Flowers to plant in March

Bare-root roses are usually planted during their dormant season.

March is the last chance you have to plant them before the Spring wakes them up.

Bare-root roses are usually less expensive than pot-grown roses, and will develop quickly if you plant them now.

Wildflowers are super-easy when it comes to making your garden wildlife-friendly.

They are fast-growing, low-maintenance, and a great way to suppress weeds.

    It's getting hot, hot hot…

BRITS ARE set for a 20C scorcher today – making it the hottest day of the year.

People are set to head to the beaches with sunshine “up and down the country” on the warmest day so far, as temperatures are expected to hit 20C.

BBC weather forecaster Chris Fawkes said: “Our settled weather is due to this big area of high pressure.

He said that the hottest temperatures are set to be in Scotland where it could hit 20C.

“Temperatures will be well above average inland in the sunshine … 16C, 17C maybe in Cardiff and Glasgow," said Mr Deakin.

Conditions to 'a little bit warmer' by next week

BBC Weather has said conditions will get "a little bit warmer", approaching 20C in London by Wednesday.

And Netweather senior forecaster Jo Farrow said: "The ongoing theme for the next week is more settled, dry weather with a more southerly flow.

"That means temperatures will be higher, into the high teens and even low 20s on the cards."

The summery predictions have pushed bookies to slash the odds on temperatures hitting at least 20C in March.

Coral is now 1-2 on the milestone being met, with April being the hottest on record at 4-5.

The bookmaker's John Hill said: "It feels like spring has sprung early this year and it looks like we are set for a scorching April."

Temperatures around the country for today

Temperatures will hit 13C in Edinburgh, 15C in Liverpool, and 16C in Cardiff later today – even topping 18C in London.

And the unseasonably fine weather will continue tomorrow and into Sunday.

Met Office meteorologist Claire Nasir said: "Through the day on Friday, lots of blue sky and plenty of sunshine.

"It could turn hazy towards the West of Scotland as we see more high cloud here and certainly quite a breeze across the Western Isles.

"Even so, everywhere remains dry through the afternoon, and that really will help keep temperatures up very nicely as we head through the middle part of the day.

"Temperatures coming in around 12C or 13C for Scotland and Northern Ireland, however we could see values peaking around 16C to 18C across mid-Wales down towards the south east of England – a bright end to the working week."

    Brits bask in 18C ‘mini-heatwave’

BRITS are set to enjoy an 18C mini-heatwave this weekend.

There will "barely be a cloud in the sky" as temperatures climb above average temperatures of 10C for March.

But rain and colder temperatures could return after Sunday, forecasters revealed, and another mini-heatwave is not expected for a while.

Met Office predictions say:  "Chance of rain, most likely in the east, from Sunday. Turning colder through Sunday."

The balmy spell seemed unlikely this morning, with the mercury as low as -6C in the Glens of Scotland.

    Early April forecast

For the final days of March, high pressure is likely to continue. This means that dry and fine weather is expected, although there is still a low chance of periods of wind and rain in the west.

Into April, it is probable that the high pressure will slowly recede eastwards, with the winds coming from the west or southwest again, bringing some wet, possibly very wet weather at times, associated with some strong winds too.

Bands of rain are likely to be interspersed with brighter and showery conditions.

It is expected to remain mild or very mild, although short periods of colder conditions are possible.

Five tips on easing hay fever

    1. Shower and change clothes after being outdoors

Pollen gets everywhere, sticking to clothes and affecting you long after you’ve retreated inside. After a day outside, jump in the shower, or bath, and change your clothes to prevent the pollen clinging to you and furniture indoors.

    2. Apply petroleum gel just under the nose

Dabbing a little petroleum gel, such as Vaseline, around the nostrils before you head out can act as a barrier to prevent pollen particles from entering your nose.

    3. Wear wraparound sunglasses

This is a suitably stylish way of keeping pesky pollen powder out of your eyes.

    4. Keep it clean

Regularly wash your hands when out and about to remove pollen and avoid rubbing it further into your eyes or nose. You can also carry some wipes to give your hands a quick clean when out and about.

    5. Dry your laundry inside

Gorgeous weather calls for hanging the laundry outside. But if you suffer from hay fever, it’s better to dry your laundry inside so that it won’t catch any pollen outside.

Temperatures in Scotland on April 2 could drop to as low as -2C.

The mercury will hover around 3C in Wales but could reach 5C in Pembrokeshire.

Rules for cyclists looking to enjoy the spring sunshine

With the weather set to warm up in the coming weeks, cyclists are ready to get out on their bikes and make the most of the sunshine.

Bobbin Bikes encourage cyclists to make themselves fully aware of what they can and can’t do on the roads.

Road rules for cyclists to stay safe this spring:

    • Hand signals – Using hand signals is important for cyclists to communicate their intent to motorists behind them.
    • Clothing – Cyclists should always wear a protective helmet that conforms to current regulations, is the correct size, and is securely fastened. Light coloured, fluorescent clothing is best to wear whilst cycling in winter or darker days, and reflective clothing and accessories should be worn in the dark.
    • Lights – All cycles must have front, and rear lights lit up at night. All bikes must also be fitted with red rear reflectors.
    • Cycle lanes – Dedicated cycle lanes are marked by a white line, which may be solid or broken. Cyclists must stick to cycle lanes when able to.
    • Parking – Bicycles must not be left in any place that can cause obstruction or hazard to other road users.

    Temperatures of 18C+ this weekend

FORECASTERS say a blast of warm air from North Africa is set to hit the UK this weekend bringing temperatures of up to 18C.

Jim Dale, a senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, has said that the UK can expect dry weather and blue skies this weekend, adding temperatures are likely to sit between 17 and 18C, potentially reaching 20C.

The forecaster added that the UK will see “a lot of pleasant weather coming now”.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, weather forecaster Phil Morrish also said that: “We’re certainly going to get some warmer weather coming in this weekend.

    “We’ll get temperatures of 15 or 16C.

“As of Saturday, we’re going to get what we call a Spanish plume event, where air from North Africa is moving north.”

A ‘Spanish plume’ is a weather event that occurs when a bout of warm air is pushed north from Iberia, and may cause an increased risk of thunderstorms too.

Possible heatwave reaching 28C as early as April

While temperatures are often expected to be mild in April, it’s a month more synonymous with rain.

This year though, according meteorologist, Jim Dale, suggests Brits may experience temperatures at hot as 28C – temperatures typically reserved for the middle of Summer.

Last year’s April barely reached 15C, meanwhile our lockdown April was notoriously scorching.

According to the Met Office, it was the fifth hottest April in the UK since records began in 1929.

Why Thunderstorms can trigger asthma attacks

Asthma UK said there are two reasons that thunderstorms can trigger asthma attacks.

They explained: “The air before a storm can feel very humid and close. Some people tell us this gives them a tight chest and a cough, and that they find it harder to breathe.

“During pollen season, the windy conditions during a thunderstorm blow lots of pollen high into the air.

“The moisture higher up in the air breaks the pollen into much smaller pieces.

“As these smaller pieces of pollen particles then settle back down, they can be breathed in, irritating the smaller airways of the lungs”, they added.

It’s set to be a warm Summer so here’s how to stay safe against UV

As climate change begins to make more of an effect, it’s important to be aware of UV rays.

Sunburn occurs when the skin is exposed to UV rays from the sun, but can also be from sunbeds.

Extreme sunburn can be very serious and even mild sunburn may not heal properly leading to aged skin and eventually skin cancer.

The Met Office advises sunscreen and avoiding excess exposure to UV rays.
