It’s not easy to lose weight — just ask, well, anybody. With so many flavorful foods out there, it’s no wonder that it’s such a feat. Luckily, we can turn our televisions to TLC to see Amy and Tammy Slaton working at it along with us. It always helps to know that someone else is in the same boat as you — and it’s always helped the 1,000-Lb. Sisters as they navigate losing weight together. “Doing it together was a big help,” Amy exclusively told The List. And she adds, “We have always been close.”
However, even when you have someone holding you accountable, it’s always easy to slip back into your old eating habits. And on 1,000-Lb. Sisters, there’s something the cameras aren’t always showing us: “The part where we counted our calories,” Amy explained. And there’s been one guilty pleasure in particular that initially made it hard for her to lose weight.
Amy Slaton's biggest obstacle has been her favorite beverage
Out of all of the tasty treats out there, there was something specific that made losing weight a big obstacle for Amy Slaton. “Giving up sodie was a big deal for me,” she told us, and she’s not alone. According to a poll conducted by Gallup, 48 percent of Americans drink at least one glass of soda each and every day. And between the caffeine cravings and the all-around deliciousness that a single can brings us, it’s no wonder it’s so difficult to call it quits.
During an episode in season one of 1,000-lb Sisters, Amy and Tammy admitted that they were drinking up to 12 cans daily of the stuff. However, Amy says she has completely given it up in order to drop the weight. “I haven’t had one since September 2019,” she told us. Cutting out cans of soda has helped her drop over 100 pounds since the TLC series first aired on our screens.
Now, Amy’s go-to healthy snack, she tells us, is another something sweet: “I like pineapple,” she said. Yum!
1,000-Lb. Sisters airs every Monday night on TLC at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
