Melanie Martin said that the day she lost her on-and-off again fiancé Aaron Carter was the “worst day of [her] life,” but she is trying to focus on raising their young son Prince. Aaron, brother to Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter died age 34. His body was found at his California home on Saturday. Expressing her grief, Melanie, who first got engaged to Aaron back in 2020 has said that she is now reflecting on the future with their son.

In a statement to People on Monday, Melanie shared: “I only wish I had more people to help me with him.

“I will now be raising our son as a single mother and this is the worst day of my life, but I have to be strong for our son.”

Noting how “devastated” she was to have lost Aaron, she continued to say that she knew he was struggling.

“My heart is completely broken over the passing of my fiancé Aaron,” she said.

“I knew he was struggling, and I tried everything to help him.

“He has a very independent and strong personality, and I couldn’t help him in the way I felt he needed it.”

The statement comes after Melanie posted a short but emotional clip on the social media site TikTok, in which she expressed her heartbreak.

In the two-second clip, Melanie can be seen sobbing from what appears to be the driver’s seat of a moving car, prompting the app to provide a disclaimer: “Participating in this activity could result in you or others getting hurt.”

She also shared a throwback recording of a TikTok Live, in which Aaron showed off some silly dance moves for his followers.

“Forever posting,” Melanie wrote in the caption.

Navigating her grief, Melanie posted her first statement just hours after Aaron’s death was announced.

She told TMZ: “My fiancé Aaron Carter has passed away. I love Aaron with all my heart and it’s going to be a journey to raise a son without a father.

“Please respect the privacy of my family as we come to terms with the loss of someone we love greatly.

“We are still in the process of accepting this unfortunate reality. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.”

A representative of Aaron’s shared that the 34-year-old singer was “found unresponsive” by police who were called after a house sitter said she had found a man unresponsive in the bathtub.

It is reported in the US Sun that Los Angeles County police arrived at the scene around 11am, and Aaron was pronounced dead at the scene.

After posting on social media, fans showed their support for Melanie in the comment section.

One person wrote: “I am so so sorry. Please remember you have the biggest part of him then anyone does and that is Prince.”

Another of her follower’s commented: “You tried so many times to save him. “I’m so sorry that Prince has lost his daddy.”

With many fans thinking about Prince, another added: “I’m so sorry. I’m praying so hard for you and baby.”
